Long before this became a business, it was a way of life.
Our grandfather harvested and traded saffron across the Kandahar region the way his own father had by hand, by trust, and by reputation. There were no contracts, no certifications, no company registration numbers. Just saffron of a quality that spoke for itself, passed between people who knew exactly what they were handling.
From the fields of Kandahar and the valleys of Herat two of the most storied saffron-producing regions on earth the trade routes ran east. Afghanistan and India share more than a border. They share centuries of commerce, of culture, of spice carried across mountain passes by men who understood the value of what they were moving. Our family was part of that. Long before modern logistics, long before formal trade existed, Afghan saffron was finding its way to Indian kitchens, Indian markets, and Indian tables. Our grandfather was one of the men who made that happen.
The knowledge passed to our father. The routes were longer. The world was more complicated. But the saffron never changed deep crimson threads from Kandahar and Herat, two regions that produce distinctly different expressions of the same extraordinary spice.
Kandahar saffron is bold, intense, and rich in colour. Herat saffron is refined, aromatic, and delicate in fragrance. Together, they represent the full depth of what Afghan saffron truly is. Our family has always known both. Always sourced both. Always understood the difference.
For generations, that knowledge lived inside the family. Informal. Unregistered. Irreplaceable.
In 2016, we gave it a name.
Kandahar Saffron & Dry Fruits Ltd was formally established in New Delhi not because we were starting something new, but because what three generations had built deserved a foundation the modern world could stand on. The supply relationships were already there. The quality standards were already embedded. We simply made it official.
In 2025, we brought it to the United Kingdom.
London is now our European base. A deliberate choice. The UK sits at the crossroads of global trade, and the demand for authentic, origin-verified, premium-grade saffron is growing faster than most suppliers can meet it. We are not most suppliers. We are a family that has been sourcing directly from Kandahar and Herat for longer than most competitors have been in business and we supply both markets, UK and India, from the same uncompromising source.
What arrives in our packaging today is the same saffron our grandfather carried across the ancient trade routes of Afghanistan. The only thing that has changed is the world now has a way to order it.
